Copyright is used by people to protect their individual work. It forces others to get your permission to use your work or share it. If you are using someones work you have to make sure you get their permission or give them credit. Fair use is a way to use someones copyrighted work without getting permission. However, there is specific situations when this is allowed. These instances include; schoolwork, news reports, when you are commenting, and when you are using it for a parody. For fair use to be allowed a person must give new meaning to the work and add their own ideas to it; they also must not profit off of the work. As an educator I would be sure to explain these concepts in detail to my class to ensure they understand that it is unacceptable to take credit for others work and that there are legal ramifications for those actions.
