I have used MS word since I was able to use a computer, so i have become relatively proficient at it. However, I have not had much practice using the shortcuts that word provides and need to learn how to make brochures and newsletters through word. I prefer MS word over any other platform although I agree that Google Docs do have benefits. I am comfortable with learning new things and would be open to try a different platform if I thought it would be better than MS word.
I think out of the seven standards the one about the learner is most meaningful to me. This is because I find it integral to the teaching profession that educators are constantly improving their techniques and learning from others. If educators are constantly bettering themselves then this in turn improves the education they are providing for students. This standard is important for students because as educators stay up to date on research about education they find better ways to connect to students and help them succeed.
I agree for the most part with the label "digital native" to describe todays youth. Being a digital native is a term used to describe entire generation who were born in the technological age we are living in. The term implies that digital natives know how to use technology better than non-natives. I agree that more recent generations know how to use technology better than past generations, but I do not agree that all natives prefer to learn using technology and that they dislike reading. I have seen differences between my use of technology and my teachers over the years. They tend to have a hard time making lessons run smoothly when they use technology and they tend to use older forms of technology as opposed to those younger than them. It has not been harmful to my learning experience because most time they still find a way to relay the information pretty well. I think technology will continue to advance and as I become a teacher I will likely have to use newer technology that I am not comfortable with.
I agree with you that the learner is a very important standard. If a teacher does not learn from their students as much as their students learn from them, education will never be as beneficial as it could be. No one stops learning, and if someone embraces learning from everyone around them, it will overall increase the environment of productivity in the classroom which would result in students who are more receptive to material, as well as students who are more passionate about the work they are doing.
ReplyDeleteHi, Riley!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your post! I agree with you that the learner is an important standard for educators. Teachers must be open to learning new things that will help better their students. Whether they learn with other teachers or from more experienced teachers, it is so important for educators to keep learning in order to improve the overall quality of both their teaching and their classroom environment. The more teachers learn, the more they can set their students up for success!
