I have been using twitter since 2013 and it has always been a great source of information. I use it to keep up with sports, current events, and to have a laugh. For the most part I follow my friends, comedians, newscasters, and celebrities. Twitter has been a great social media app over the years to keep up with what is going on in the world. In the future twitter can help me connect with people with professions that are in a similar field. This will give me more opportunities to learn new ideas and ways of teaching.
Depending on the school the digital divide can have a gar reaching impact on how students learn and the opportunities they are given. As technology use becomes more prevalent in schools and the work force the disparities between those with access and those without will become greater. Students with little to no access to technology will most likely fall behind because more and more aspects of life are becoming digitized. A student who has access regularly will become more comfortable with the skill required to use certain types of technology and be set up for success in the future. Some causes of the digital divide range from school funding to the types of school districts. As an educator I will need to realize that the digital divide is very real and affects many students. To help as much as possible I would give equal access to the technology the school provides and try to not assign many assignments that require technology outside of class, because many students do not have the same access as others.
I would like to familiarize my students in the future with Microsoft Word and Powerpoint. These to software systems are critical in helping students learn. Microsoft Word teaches students how to create different items to use in the future; such as, brochures, pamphlets, letters, etc. It also teaches them how to properly format things such as resumes so they are prepared to find a job in the future. I think Powerpoint is important because it teaches students how to put information together in an organized manner to get there point across. Also giving presentations will become easier because of using Powerpoints as a guide and encourages them to think on their own and speak without reading off a sheet of paper.
I agree with your idea about how to lessen the digital divide. Within the school, use as much technology as supplied in class, but don't expect the same resources to be waiting at home for each and every student.
